- Here is the email we got from Dave about pinball collection rankings:
- I like math and thought the discussion of the ranking of collections was interesting. But I didn’t really like the ranking algorithm. Try it again with my method. Which is (#machines)*( 1 /( sumovermachines( 1/rank)))
- So if you have 5 machines that were the top 5 it is
- 5*(1/(1/1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + 1/5)) = 2.18
- And if it was 10-14
- 5*(1/(1/10 + 1/11 + 1/12 + 1/13 + 1/14))= 11.83
- Or like a real collection with some low ranked games
- 5*(1/(1/1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/150 + 1/200)) = 2.71
- So the low ranked games don’t dominate the result. But if you don’t have any high ranked games you get a much lower ranking.
- 5(1/(1/150 + 1/200 + 1/210 +1/230 + 1/250)) = 201.8
